Funding Restored for HIV Home Testing Program
The Atlanta-based initiative, Together Take Me Home, has successfully regained funding, enabling the continuation of its program that offers nearly 1 million free HIV home testing kits across the country for another year. Managed by Emory University and funded by the CDC, the program initially faced funding cuts but has now secured a $10 million grant for its fourth year, exceeding the previous year's allocation by $2 million. This program is part of the broader Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative, which aims to reduce new infections by 90% by 2030, particularly in high-risk areas of Georgia. Since its inception, the program has helped around 7,000 individuals discover their HIV status, significantly reducing healthcare costs through early intervention. With a user-friendly online platform and integration with dating apps, the tests provide quick results and guidance, addressing barriers of stigma and access, especially for younger users. Despite the program's success, concerns linger regarding future funding and support for HIV prevention efforts.
